Angry Video Game Nerd (Episode 88)
SwordQuest
When gaming was new, Atari's creative brain trust conceived of an ambitious puzzle contest: by playing a game, interpreting clues, and solving a mystery, every customer would be eligible for their share of a lordly trove of prizes totaling $150,000 in value.
Thus was born "Swordquest," a projected series of four Atari 2600 games combining mystical traditions, high-quality comic book inserts from DC, and ingenious puzzles into a gaming experience scarcely matched today, let alone 1982.
What could go wrong? The Nerd breaks down the troubled history of the Swordquest franchise and demands closure on one of the gaming world's greatest unfinished stories.

Angry Video Game Nerd (Episode 59)
CD-I Part 1 - Hotel Mario
The CD-I was released in 1991 by Phillips. They were originally working with Nintendo to produce a CD based add-on for the Super Nintendo, but when that didn't happen, the console known as the CD-I was born. It was a massive failure, and the whole project lost the company nearly a billion dollars. Interestingly enough, after their deal fell through with Nintendo, they were still contractually allowed to use their characters for their system.
In part one of the three-part CD-I series, the Nerd takes a look at console's only Mario title: Hotel Mario. After plans to develop a sequel to Super Mario World were scrapped, this game about closing hotel doors was made. Its bland gameplay and confusing controls has given it the reputation of being one of the worst Mario games ever made.

Angry Video Game Nerd (Episode 62)
Bible Games 2
It's the most wonderful time of the year... unless you're the Nerd. Instead of watching heart-warming Christmas specials, he's playing some more bad games of biblical proportions, and the strange Christian-themed games just keep coming!
First up is Noah's Ark, developed by Contra developers Konami and released in 1992 for the NES. Wrap your head around that one! After that, we've got Sunday Funday, a religious rehash of Menace Beach, a game where you play as a skateboarder who's trying to save his girlfriend from gangsters before she gets stripped naked. How developers Color Dreams were inspired to turn this into a Christian game defies common sense. And just when you think it can't get any worse, the Nerd busts out the baddest of the bad - Bible-themed games on the CD-i!
If you were hoping for peace and love this Christmas, you might be watching the wrong video. So spike your eggnog and grab your stockings, 'cause the Nerd is going to town on these awful games!

Angry Video Game Nerd (Episode 89)
Pong Consoles
The game that would one day be called "Pong" was invented in the 1960s by Ralph Baer, but not until it became Atari's first cash cow did it single-handedly launch the video game craze by becoming the first commercially successful electronic game played on a TV screen.
Shortly after its arcade success, an army of home consoles playing Pong-like games flooded the marketplace. Though slightly different in their internal physics, and offering menus of exotic variations, they were all unmistakably Pong at heart.
Here, the Nerd drags his vast collection of imitation Pongs out of the basement, to give us an intimate glimpse of video gaming's first gold rush.

Angry Video Game Nerd (Episode 86)
Hydlide
The Legend of Zelda, one of the most revolutionary games of it's time. Pretty much bringing the adventure genre into existence, it was a masterpiece of it's time. But, one game with a similar structure TECHNICALLY came out first. On the PC, none the less. Hydlide, released in 1984 by T&E Soft, however, teaches gamers one valuable thing; just because it came first doesn't make it better. The version reviewed here is the NES port from 1989 . Watch as James Rolfe/AVGN experiences the horror himself, and see if you can bear it too.
Some of the worst things in this game include NO ATTACK BUTTON, awful music, lousy gameplay, blocky graphics, basically everything that can go wrong with a video game goes wrong in Hydlide. If video games could make you vomit, Hydlide would do that to you. Take our word, it's that bad.

Angry Video Game Nerd (Episode 65)
Atari Jaguar (Part 1)
The Angriest Gamer you've ever heard is back in part 1 of this 2 part review of the Atari's Flagship 64 bit system released in 1993... The Jaguar. In part 1 of this review The Nerd gives some Atari History as well as a sneak peak of some of the system's small and crappy library.
Watch The Nerd tell us about all of The Jaguar's failed and annoying attempts at system hardware innovation. The Nerd will show you just how convenient the lack of a spine label is, He will show you how the added handle to the game carts makes life a little easier as well as many more additions to the hardware make his colon quake. Expletives fly and emotions run high in this first part review of the Atari Jaguar.
In the Golden Age of video games, Atari was on top. The games may not seem like much compared to today, but for the time, these simple games were revolutionary. Atari dominated arcades, and home consoles with the Atari 2600. Then competition came along, and the market became consumed with video games. Then after 1983 after the infamous Video Game Crash, Nintendo and Sega rose up, and video games were revolutionized again. So Atari had a rough time keeping up, especially with the comparison in graphics and gameplay. With Nintendo and Sega in heated competition, Sega made the argument that the 16-bit Genesis was superior to the 8-bit NES; starting a "Bit War". Atari saw this as the perfect time to capitalize with one console, but it only reminded us that graphics don't mean everything. This is, the Atari Jaguar, which was announced to be the very first; 64 Bit System! But in the end, it's anticipated arrival on the feeding ground wasn't as fearful as it build up. Here, we'll briefly touch upon the rise and fall of Atari, and why the Jaguar failed to live up to what it could've been before the Nerd talks about the games themselves.

Angry Video Game Nerd (Episode 78)
Wayne's World
Are you ready for your extreme close-up? In this episode, the Nerd looks back video games based on Wayne's World, one of the most beloved film's of the 90's. Starring Mike Myers as the titular character and Dana Carvey as his best friend, Garth, the film was crammed with musical references and irreverent humor that makes it funnier every time you see it.
In the film, Wayne and Garth host their own local television show, called Wayne's World. Despite how poorly put together the show is, it attracts the attention of a major television producer, and hilarity ensues. It's a fun film with plenty of laughs and even some drama, but the plot doesn't exactly sound like it would lend itself well to a video game adaptation...
And it really doesn't. From Garth inexplicably jumping on giant drums to Wayne fighting demonically-possessed musical instruments and donuts with a guitar that fires sonic booms, these games have about as much to do with Wayne's World as a hallucination of a large man wearing a thong does. So will the Nerd be able to play these games and keep his sanity intact? NOT!
